MEGATRON POWERS DOWN FOR GOOD, DETROIT FANS COLLECTIVELY SIGH AND SCREAM "NOT AGAIN!"

I remember when Barry retired early.  I wasn't yet a grown man at the time but I nearly wept.  Watching Barry run the ball was almost surreal at times.  It was a thing of beauty and I still think he's the greatest running back of all time.  His decision left us contemplating what could have been.  It was made even worse when Emmitt Smith broke records that Barry should have had if he would have stayed in the league for a few more years.  Now we have a very similar situation in the early retirement of Calvin Johnson.  The Lions continuous culture of losing has taken another legend from us too soon.  He was truly amazing to watch and still accomplished remarkable things despite playing for the Lions his entire career.  No matter how hard the organization tries to stifle greatness, the talent of a very select few still shines through.  I was fortunate to be on the sidelines for a Lions game one time in my life, and I got to stand next to Megatron for a few minutes.  The dude was HUGE, truly towering over pretty much everyone around him.  He was taller than the offensive linemen, who are usually the most beastly dudes on the field.  No wonder no one can cover this guy.  No wonder he can out jump 3 DBs in a crowd.  We love you Calvin and we will miss you dearly, and we will always wonder what could have been the same way we've done with Barry for years.  I am a Lions fan for life no matter how many times this happens to us, I will for sure say that.  --- Dave Christiansen

Duggan announces Detroit mortgage program to boost ownership in city.

Duggan continues to kick ass and do great things for the normal people of the city, and this is going to directly affect the lives of people looking to buy and live in Detroit neighborhoods.  It was nearly impossible to get mortgages previously because homes weren't appraising anywhere near where they needed to, so the buyer would be denied their loan and the neighborhoods would stay empty and start to decay.  This is a huge step in the right direction to getting the city's population and tax revenue back up, which will spread to other areas of life in Detroit. ---Dave Christiansen
